DJ Reviews: Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Publication Date: August 14, 2012
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Series: Lux #2
Source: Bought

DeeJay's Rating:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks… Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days.

But we’ve got bigger problems. Something worse than the Arum has come to town… The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes… I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me? No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies… (Goodreads)

So now that I'm done gushing like some lovesick teenager...

Okay, enough DJ!!

But for real, I loved Onyx. I cursed like a sailor when it ended the way it did. What an ending! As I said in my video review, it was everything a YA should be. Fun, exciting, hot, and HILARIOUS. The dialogue was so witty and well-timed that it just made the characters that I already loved that much more awesome.

Katy is my girl. She’s fiesty and smart and BLOGS ABOUT BOOKS. Winning. Dee is so cute and not at all full of herself even though she looks like a supermodel. Daemon Black. Daemon. Black. He is the most irritatingly sexy dude in the YA literary world. Couldn’t get enough of him. Everyone in this book added something to the story, and for me, that’s everything.

My only problems with it was the fact that this was another book about a girl in school, girl-meets-boy, they fall in love, blah, blah, blah, and seemingly do nothing else but flirt with each other the whole book. I’m so over this formula. HOWEVER, if a YA is written as well as this one, then I can damn sure look past all of that. Also, I’m a huge fan of fantasy and really enjoy books that take me out of normalcy and put me into something, well, fantastic. Everything in Onyx takes place in this one little podunk town in West Virginia and I really wanted to see some out of this world shit. I mean, we are dealing with aliens here! BUT I WILL SAY IT AGAIN. If you are Jennifer L. Armentrout, then you can do whatever the hell you want.

But I recommend this book to basically everyone. Dudes won’t like it too much, but who cares about them. Ladies, this series is for us, and I’m in it until the end.
