EFFIN' AMAZING

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together? (Goodreads)

This book rocked the universe. The only problem with it was that it ended.

WARNING: Lots of cursing to follow. Faint of heart, click away.

Origin was a nail-biting, thrilling adventure that had my heart pounding and blood rushing to my head. I'm pretty hard on books, so for me to say this, you know it's probably true. After being slightly underwhelmed by Opal, I went into Origin with a skeptical mindset. I wanted to read it, but I was prepared to be let down. Shiiiiiittttt...I'm sitting here now wondering why I even doubted JLA.

Let's just start with Daemon Black. Never have I been more in love with this dude. DB is at his BEST in this book. More bad ass than ever, he takes no prisoners and will do anything to be reunited with Katy. And he does. And it's awesome. He is definitely a different DB than the one we came to love in Obsidian and Onyx. Even Opal really. He's better, in all ways. And that's definitely due to his romance with Katy, who I rooted for throughout this entire book. She's wonderful and I just love her. Poor Katy though. She was dealt a bad hand at the end of Opal, and you guys can't imagine how bad it gets. But the love between Daemon and Katy is what pulls them through, and I'm telling you right now, their romance has gone from a scorching ten to an explosive twenty! Your heart will do backflips for this couple and you will grin like a psycho when they are finally reunited.

I caught the tear with a kiss. “And I’m not going to let you do this
by yourself. You’re my—you’re my everything, Kat.” At the sound of
her soft inhale, I smiled again. “Come on, Kitten, did you really expect
anything less from me? I love you.”
–Daemon Black

OMG. Swoon central!

The other characters. We don't see as much of Dee, Ash, and Andrew as in the other books but that's to be expected with what's going on. But a character that plays a bigger role in this book is Luc and I was super excited about that. I always liked the kid and JLA finally tells us what his deal is. I kind of figured it out before it was revealed but was still like AAAHHH! when it was. Luc is up to something HUGE (Duh, right?) and I'm dying to find out what it is. There's a new character, Archer, who is freaking amazing as well. I can't wait to see how his storyline plays out. Dawson and Beth...yeah...you'll just have to read the book to find out how these two have royally fucked everything up. I'll tell you a secret: By the end of the book, I had a suspicion that there is something more to Daemon, Dawson and Dee. It may turn out to be unfounded, but deep down, I really think I'm right. On top of what happens at the end, it was something Daemon said, a random one-liner that just stuck with me.

They had no idea what I was truly capable of.

Oh, I bet they don't, Black. Get 'em!

Now. Daedalus. Okay. Here's the truth of it: They are not to be fucked with.

Daemon, Katy and all the others were warned, but they didn't heed the warning and neither did I. Daedalus is a federal agency full of ruthless gangsters (including that bitch Nancy Husher, who I wouldn't mind seeing an Arum suck the life out of) who will do anything to keep the aliens that have made Earth their home under control. And when I say they will do anything, I mean they will do ANYTHING. No one is safe from them, especially not Daemon and Katy, and they make it perfectly clear in Origin. We get a first hand account of what Daedalus is up to, and if you've read Obsession then you will have been introduced to the uglier side of Daedalus already. That will not cushion the blow, unfortunately. Time and time again I was like, OH SHIT! at some of the stuff that Daedalus was down for. And the last fourth of the book??? Mother FUCK. Daedalus went straight thug nation and I'm not even joking. I was screaming, literally screaming, because I couldn't believe what the hell was going on. But our heroes started it, and I'll be damned if Daedalus didn't finish it. All I'm saying is, this "war" with Daedalus is not about to go the way we think it is. It's gonna be so much more awesome than that.

Hands down, best book of the series. Action-packed, full of betrayals and secrets revealed, I can't imagine it gets much better than this. I'm DYING to read the last book in the series. I just know it's going to be so bad ass. It's time to go to war, baby!

  1. Thank you so much for this! I am really excited for Origin. I can't count the times I reread Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal in the past month just to calm me while waiting for August 27th to come!

I actually have the same feeling about the Black triplets like they're somewhat different, more powerful, or special.
