Funny and almost charming!

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried. (Goodreads)

What is there really to say about this book? Though I truly enjoyed the plot, I have mixed feelings about the sexy Mr. Dante Walker, though most of them are positive.

A doomed kingdom, a young queen’s sacrifice and a killer who will bring an empire to its knees...

DeeJay Reviews: Memory's Wake by @SelinaFenech + Blog Tour #GIVEAWAY!

Memory's Wake

Publication Date: June 16, 2011
Series: Memory's Wake #1
Genre: YA Fantasy
Source: Received from author in exchange for an honest review

DeeJay's Rating:
Descriptive but confusing at times

Lost in a world full of monstrous fairies, a troubled sixteen year old has to find out who she is and why her memories were stolen before she is found by those who want her dead.

She takes the name “Memory” and knows she has just one goal – to find her way home, wherever that is. But this land is strange. No technology to be seen, and iron is banned, thanks to a pact the humans have with the magical creatures who share their pre-industrial era world. In her t-shirt and torn jeans, Memory knows she’s different, even before she performs impossible magic.

Haunted by her past, chased by a dragon, wanted by the king and stalked by the strange, handsome savage that seems to know her, everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it’s not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will challenge everything she believes and risk the lives of everyone she loves.(Goodreads)

We all want to be drawn into a book the second it starts. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. In this book, I did. But the problem with jumping head first into books where the world was created by the author is that sometimes it just leaves the reader confused about what's going on and I hate that.

Tied cover

Tied by Laney McMann

Normal people don’t believe their nightmares stalk them. They don’t fall in love with boys who don’t exist, either.
Seventeen-year-old Layla Labelle, though, is far from normal. Her delusions walk the earth. Her hallucinations hunt her, and her skin heats to a burn every time her anger flares.
Or is that all in her head?
Layla doesn’t know what to believe any more because if none of that’s true, Max MacLarnon must be an illusion, and her heart must still be broken.
No matter how much she wants to believe Max is real, doing so would mean everything else is, too. How, then, is that possible?

Leopard Moon
by Jeanette Battista

Publication Date: March 4, 2012

Genre: Paranormal YA

DeeJay's Rating:

How do you disappear when you come from a family of predators?

A wereleopard, Kess is forced to flee her home and family in Miami once her brother's obsession with her turns violent. She runs from city to city, trying to stay one step ahead of the investigators her family has dispatched to bring her home. Kess ends up in the mountains of North Carolina and attracts the attention of Cormac, a young man with a secret of his own.

As she attempts to live as normal a life as her were-nature allows, her brother Sek continues to hunt for her. He believes she is the key to revitalizing their weakened clan and is driven to extreme measures to ensure their continued existence. As Kess' relationship with Cormac deepens, Sek closes in, threatening Cormac's life and Kess' freedom.

When the moon rises, the hunt is on….

Leopard Moon was an average YA novel with an average plot and just average characters, except for one character in particular. The writing was simple and unexaggerated and the storyline was less than thrilling. That said, I made it to the end of the book and that should count for something.

Series: Darkling Trilogy #1
Genre: Paranormal/Romance

Unique and unexpected!

Life for a female slave is one of hardship and unspeakable sorrow, something Luna knows only too well. But not even she could have foreseen the terror that would befall her one sultry Mississippi evening in the summer of 1807.

On her way back from a visit to see the African woman, a witch who has the herbs Luna needs to rid her of her abusive master’s child, she attracts the attention of a deadly being that lusts for blood. Forcibly removed from everything she knows by this tormented otherworldly creature, she is sure she will be dead by sunrise.

Dark Genesis is a love story set against the savage world of slavery in which a young woman who has been dehumanised by its horrors finds the courage to love, and in doing so, reclaims her humanity. (Goodreads)

Everyone knows how skeptical I am of free books, and I was equally skeptical of this one. However, it was recommended to me by Carrie from The Mad Reviewer and since she and I have similar reading tastes, I decided to give it a try anyway. I mean, really. How could I resist a vampire love story that takes place in during the period of American slavery?
