Dishin' It Up with Roselyn Jewell (@jewellromance), author of Stealing Back Love

Roselyn Jewell

Sum the character Victoria from Degrees of Separation up in three words.
Brave, smart, confident

Name three songs that would make the soundtrack for your Romance, Stealing Back Love. What an awesome, but hard question! I'm sure there are a million out there, but I'm going to go with One More Night - Maroon 5, Follow Me - Uncle Kracker, and Right Here Waiting - Staind.

Many Romance authors tend to stick to writing only one type Romance, but you seem to dabble in all sorts of subjects and situations, including arranged marriages in the Indian culture. Is this something you've done on purpose, or did just...happen?
A little bit of both actually. I knew that I wanted to write romance, but not just the traditional kind. It's very important to me that my books have depth in the plots and the characters, not just people hopping into bed. (not that there's anything wrong with that!) So in order to kind of force myself into coming up with deep plots and multi-dimensional characters, I have taken plot points and character personality traits from books I've read, movies I've seen, experiences I or people close to me have had, etc. and written them down on scraps of paper. If I am stuck on what to write about, I'll draw about 10 plot points and 3-5 character ideas and go from there. It can be very challenging because some of the plot points don't seem like they'd mesh well in the same story, but then it becomes a fun challenge to make it work.

What would you consider your personal motto to be?
Be who you are because the people who matter don't mind and the people who mind don't matter.

For you, what defines a successful author?
I will consider myself a success when I know that I have truly made a difference or a significant impact in a reader's life. When it comes down to it, yes a lot of sales would be nice. But books have gotten me through some really tough times in my life and if I knew that reading one of my books made someone else's life a little better, even if it was just for a few hours, that to me is success and more important than any amount of money.

Totally Random WTF Question:
Sandwiches: With or without crust? With, although sometimes I eat the crust first and leave the middle for last ;)

Thanks so much for interviewing me! Great questions by the way, I had a lot of fun with this :)

I'm an author, a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister, a daughter, and so much more! I've always loved reading and found myself wanting to continue the stories I loved so much, which is how I started writing. Now I've finally reached my dream of being published. My novels are mainly romance, though there are a lot of other elements as well. My books prove that you can have the romance and the passion without having to sacrifice great plot lines or strong character personalities.
