Murder is a deadly business. Show N' Read Saturday: MURDOCH MYSTERIES

Title: Murdoch Mysteries
TV Station: CBC
Genre: 19th/20th Century Period Crime Show
No. of Seasons: 8
My Favorite Character: George Crabtree
Can kids watch? Sure, but they'll probably fall asleep on it

How did I not know this show existed until this year? OMG! It's AMAZING! I started off watching the first three seasons on Netflix, and then had to buy the rest of the series because the thought of waiting for it made me sick to my stomach.

MM has everything you could possibly want in a show like this–great mysteries, fantastic plot, highly developed characters who all have back stories, a love story that just won't quit, and humor. Great Sherlock, this show is hilarious! William Murdoch is a brilliant detective who is great at his job and clueless about everything else, including love sometimes. His back and forth relationship with Dr. Julie Ogden is enough to make you scream, and yes, they drag out the ultimate commitment for eight seasons. Can you believe it!? I almost died several times. But it was all worth it in the end!

George Crabtree is my favorite character in this show. Not only is he ADORABLE, but every time he opens his mouth something innocently funny tumbles out of it. He is such a loyal character with a gentle soul, though he has and will continue to kick ass whenever necessary. I'm excited to see how things pan out for him in Season 9 because DAMN, he effed up really bad, LOL. That's all I'll say about it.

The scientific element to this show is beyond awesome. Murdoch is quite the inventor and uses many of his own inventions to help him solve crimes. What really makes this show special, and why I love Crabtree so much, is that he is always predicting future inventions and people are always shooting them down as though they could never be. But of course, many of his predictions came to pass and many exist today. It's so brilliant and such a special treat when you realize you know what he is talking about!

I cannot recommend this show enough. I literally binge watched all eight seasons in two weeks like it was nothing and was actually pissed off when there were no more episodes to watch. I am DYING for season 9 which is coming in October of this year. Now's the time to get caught up if this sounds like something you would watch, and if you do, I'd love to hear what you think!

It is the time of Jack the Ripper, the widowed Queen Victoria sits on the throne of England. The whole of London is on edge wondering when or where Jack will kill next. The Palace, Parliament, and the press are demanding the police do more to find him. In another part of London, rough-around-the-edges war hero, Metropolitan Detective Inspector Rudyard Bloodstone has his own serial killer to find. Inter departmental rivalries, politics, and little evidence to go on hamper the investigation at every turn. In a battle of wills, Bloodstone presses forward following his instincts in spite of the obstacles. Adding to those problems, away from the strains of the investigation, he is engaged in the ups and downs of a new relationship with a lovely hat maker.

This definitely sounds like a crime William Murdoch would take on and solve with his eyes closed. So far, so good and my review should be posted in late September!
