26104181She’s a challenge he can’t afford to lose…

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has only ever been able to count on three things: waking up in the morning, going to sleep sometime during the night, and Lauren Brixton. She’s been his best friend since grade school, and what they have is the only relationship he’s managed not to ruin.

Until one drunken night puts that all in jeopardy.

Lauren’s watched Steven flit from one-night stand to one-night stand, seemingly not interested in something more. So when the long-ignored attraction between the two of them blows up in their faces, she does the only thing she can—she pretends she doesn’t want him. But all’s fair in love and war, and Steven’s not about to lose the only person in his life who matters…

Gotta love those military boys! They've just got so many issues, lol.

I really enjoyed this book because as a military brat, I've had many many run ins with men the military. Not all soldiers have crazy quirks (like my father) but when they do, it's sort of funny how strict they are about them. Steven, the male MC of this book, hated being lied to. Most people hate that, but for Steven it was a LAW. You violated that law, you were out of his life-friend, lover, whatever. I thought that was extreme because if we all operated that way, we'd all be alone. But anyway, since it's known upfront that Steven hates liars, you kind of already know what's going to happen. But that's okay and it doesn't ruin the story.

Lauren is Steven's best friend (first mistake) so she's one of the most important people in his life. She's loved him since forever (second mistake) so what happens in this book was inevitable. They give a romantic relationship a real try, which I admire, before the crap hits the fan. I really liked Lauren and thought it sucked how things happened for her. I felt Steven overreacted and it wasn't even that big of a deal. The lie she told was warranted in my opinion, because it was done out of love. Anyone with any sense wouldn't have felt betrayed. But Steven did. However, things worked out in the end and that was all that mattered.

This was a very short read mostly due to the fact that we weren't made to trudge through all the stuff that goes on when two people first meet. They already had an established relationship and sometimes I need to read books like that. I could read more books by this author and recommend this one to other romance lovers. It's a sweet treat with an intriguing HOT factor for those of you who love a little spice with your romance.
